2025 Graduate Research Award Winner!
We’re thrilled to share that one of our own, alumna and NEURAI standout Lana Do, was honored with the prestigious 2025 Graduate Research Award from Northeastern’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences. This accolade recognizes Lana’s exceptional contributions to research and innovation. Her dedication, creativity, and impact truly embody the spirit of NEURAI!
Spotlight on YouDescribe
One highlight of Lana’s award-winning work is YouDescribe, an inspiring project that leverages community collaboration and AI to make online videos accessible for blind and low-vision (BLV) audiences.
- What is YouDescribe?
Launched in 2013, YouDescribe is a community‑powered platform where volunteers narrate key visual elements in YouTube and TikTok videos, expanding access to entertainment, educational content, and culture for BLV users. - What’s new in 2025?
The project evolved into a hybrid model combining AI‑generated description drafts with human refinements—a Human‑in‑the‑Loop (HITL) framework. This innovation dramatically boosts efficiency while preserving the nuance and empathy human narrators bring.
